OpenClaw
Deploy autonomous browser agents that navigate the web, extract data, fill forms, and execute complex multi-step workflows—24/7, with full context persistence and error recovery.
What is OpenClaw?
OpenClaw is an agent runtime for browser and workflow automation with explicit control over execution surfaces, profiles, and operational guardrails. It supports both extension-relay control of a live browser and isolated managed browser profiles, which makes it practical for production use cases where you need repeatability, auditability, and controlled failure behavior.
At JamStackLabs, we implement OpenClaw for high-friction automation domains: authenticated portal operations, structured extraction from dynamic UIs, form-heavy back-office flows, and multi-step browser-to-API orchestration where deterministic runbooks matter more than one-off scripts.
Deployment patterns we implement
We deploy OpenClaw in three patterns, depending on compliance, latency, and control requirements:
- Cloud-native — containerized gateway with controlled egress, queue-driven job intake, and environment-scoped secrets
- On-prem — isolated runtime in customer-controlled networks for regulated workloads and data residency constraints
- Hybrid — control plane in cloud with browser/node execution close to internal systems for lower latency and safer network boundaries
For browser control, we select between OpenClaw managed profiles and Chrome extension relay mode based on session requirements, anti-bot sensitivity, and whether existing authenticated tabs must be reused.
Custom workflow modeling & automation
We model each automation as an explicit execution graph: entry triggers, navigation states, extraction contracts, branching rules, recovery checkpoints, and downstream commit semantics. This keeps workflows debuggable under UI drift and traffic variance.
- Conditional multi-page flows with idempotent checkpoints and resumable state
- Schema-first extraction with validation, deduplication, and quality thresholds
- Form automation backed by business rules and typed field mappings
- Queue and schedule orchestration with retry budgets and dead-letter handling
- Artifact capture (screenshots, PDFs, structured logs) for audit and RCA workflows
Tuning knobs & performance optimization
Production reliability depends on the right tuning model, not just more compute. We tune along four axes:
- Concurrency and throughput — worker pool sizing, tab/session reuse, and bounded parallelism per workflow class
- Stability — wait strategy tuning, fallback selectors, and deterministic action sequencing under DOM volatility
- Runtime efficiency — profile choice (relay vs managed), headless/headed tradeoffs, and timeout budgets per step
- Cost control — job batching, adaptive retry policies, and resource envelopes tied to SLO priorities
OpenClaw, Tailscale and Lume: how they fit
For environment strategy, we use Lume when teams need isolated local macOS VMs, and we typically use Tailscale for secure connectivity across VPS and hybrid node deployments. This keeps latency and cost predictable while preserving private network boundaries and operational control.
Reliability, governance & scale operations
Our production baseline includes explicit trust boundaries, environment isolation, and policy-first controls for tool execution. We use dedicated runtime profiles, scoped credentials, and sandboxed execution where required to minimize blast radius.
At scale, we operationalize OpenClaw with SLO-driven monitoring, queue depth alerting, timeout/error budget tracking, and controlled rollout strategies. Governance controls include authenticated control-plane access, replayable execution traces, and change-managed workflow versioning.
